My family and I just love going to our county fair.
It’s one of those things that we plan for and look forward to every year.
The fair is always the second week of August, so it’s the perfect time for a summer vacation. My husband takes that week off of work every year, and we rent a cabin way out in the woods about fifteen miles from where the county fair is located. Our kids literally talk about the fair year round. For Christmas last year, they both asked me for money so that they could save up for the fair in August. It amazes me just how much they enjoy it, and that makes it all the more exciting to go. Last summer was one of the worst trips to the fair ever. The week of the fair was unusually hot and extremely humid. There were no air conditioned buildings except a couple bathrooms, so there was really no place of shelter from the heat in the fairgrounds. Many people left the fair earlier than usual because it was so hot. Of course, we didn’t want to leave early because this was our once a year vacation, and we loved the fair, so we had to come up with a different plan to get in some air conditioning. We decided to go out to our van and drive it around the parking lot with the air conditioning on high in order to cool us down a bit. We did that every couple of hours, and it actually worked wonders. Although it wasn’t our favorite year at the fair, we were glad to have found a way to still be able to enjoy it.
