This was the narrative of my childhood home growing up.
We didn’t use indoor air quality control on a regular basis because it was expensive and my family didn’t believe in it. They didn’t want to call a local HVAC repair shoop when our furnace or Ac stopped working. They just wanted the indoor air handling devices to be ready and available, in case they were ever enlisted for temperature control duties. For the most part, though, we didn’t get to touch our thermostat. The indoor temperature was what the indoor temperature was, and we didn’t get to complain about our indoor comfort. That’s why it’s so wild these days to consider the option of upgrading to a whole new indoor air handling system that has little resemblance to the rudimentary HVAC devices I had growing up. Back then, I barely got to use any indoor heating or cooling. Our equipment was old, dirty, and half-broken down. Everything about the HVAC system was manual. And these days… you can buy a whole new HVAC setup that is clean, technologically relevant, and easy to maintain. That’s what I’ve found in radiant heated floors, anyways. Since hearing the good news about smart thermostats and radiant heated flooring, my life has never been the same. I have clean, energy-efficient, low-maintenance indoor heating at my fingertips whenever I want it. I don’t even have to consider the extra costs of using the indoor heating system, because it is so energy efficient. I just deliver the heat exactly where I want it! And no one tells me the thermostat is off limits.
