Something I’ve learned somewhat recently in life is, “you need to be careful who you listen to.” For me, personally, it’s attractive to hear other people’s opinions and trust them as good information.
The truth is, a lot of people talk out their butts and have no clue what they’re saying… but they’ll say it with confidence, anyways.
This is the struggle I’ve had to accept when it comes to many of my friends. I can trust and respect their opinions in certain areas of life, but truth be told… there are a lot of things that they simply don’t know about. They’ll try to sell me on some idea and I’ll begin to believe them, which leads to a lot of mistakes. This has certainly been the case with the HVAC system that I inherited when I bought this house. It was over 15 years old when I first saw the forced air furnace and central AC system. For some reason, I listened to a pal of mine when he said the central heating and cooling devices would last for another 15. Instead, there have been nothing but challenges with this damn air quality control setup. Every time my indoor air temperature can’t be controlled, my friend told me to just have it repaired and I found myself calling a local heating and cooling repair shop. Frustratingly, they couldn’t seem to fix my HVAC problems either. I hired them because my friend recommended them… but later I heard that this dealership has the worst reputation in town. It took a long time for me to realize, my buddy just doesn’t know what he’s saying about heating and cooling devices.
