When there is a problem I am the one who has to keep the passengers distracted and happy during the crisis.
I have a dream job that I wouldn’t want to give up for anything. When I studied hospitality in college I figured that I would end working for a travel agency, hotel chain, or even some resort but I landed a job that was way better than that. I am the head purser onboard a cruise ship so it is my responsibility to make sure that everyone has a wonderful time at sea. I have worked for the cruise line for the past fifteen years and worked my way up the ladder from cabin boy to where I am today. Over the course of those years I had to learn a lot about the workings of the ship. When you first start working on a ship you have to do everything from carrying luggage to changing toilet paper. I never minded any of those tasks because it gave me more confidence in the job I have now. There is one area of the ship that I don’t have much knowledge about and that is the engine and mechanical room. This area is in charge of the ship operating properly and the HVAC system running smoothly too. When there is a problem I am the one who has to keep the passengers distracted and happy during the crisis. I remember one trip where the HVAC system stopped working completely and we had to make a port to have it repaired. We had to pay for rooms in a local hotel so that the passengers would have a comfortable place to stay until the system was repaired. It was an unscheduled stop but no one seemed to mind hanging out on a tropical beach for a couple of days.
