My brother is a pretty handy guy and handles most of his home repairs himself.
I think it is really cool that he is brave enough to tackle just about anything and wish I had his mechanical ability.
The only fault he has is that he fails to read all the directions prior to starting a project. If he orders something that needs to be assembled he just takes out all the parts and starts putting it together regardless of the order. This has led to quite a bit of frustration over the years. His latest thing that he messed up was the installation of his new Smart Thermostat. He went out and purchased one from the local hardware store and didn’t bother to see if it would even work with his system. Once he got it home he disconnected the old one, wired the new one, and then got frustrated that it wouldn’t respond to the HVAC system or the Wifi. He called for tech support and they said that he should have bought a different model. He then had to disconnect it and return it to the store. When he told me of his tale of trouble I recommended that he contact his local HVAC dealer and have them come out to install one. They not only have professionals trained to do the job but they also carry the ones that will work with your system. Wasting your time and money on things that will not work for you is senseless, especially when there are trained professionals out there to help you every step of the way.
