Most HVAC dealers in your area will perform an energy assessment on your home free of charge or for a small fee and it is worth every penny spent if you need to. This energy assessment includes checking your HVAC system for efficiency, the insulation of your house. and checking for any areas that may be leaking your heat or air conditioning to the outside. When we decided to have an energy assessment done our windows and doors were fine but I was surprised to see how many of the outlets and light switches in the house we’re basically just allowing the heat and cool to pour out. The HVAC either showed us simple ways that we could seal up these areas and prevent the loss of valuable dollars going out each time we ran the HVAC system. I never would have considered that this was a problem but since we have made the changes I have seen a significant drop in my energy cost.
