A quick check of the weather made all the difference

In our home we are not likely to turn on the television until around 8 at night.

  • This is because we all have busy schedules and it just seems to be a distraction.

Even turning on the news in the morning makes the kids stop and look at the television rather than get ready for school so we made it a rule not to watch it until the end of our day. This allows everyone to focus on the task at hand such as work, school assignments, and valuable family time. The problem comes when we are in the late fall or early spring time and we don’t watch the weather forecast. Sometimes this makes it difficult to plan the day as far as how to dress and what to set the HVAC system for for the day. There were 10 days where we left the heat on when we were leaving for the day and it ended up that we really didn’t need it because the temperature warmed enough. We felt that we were wasting money so we decided to invest in a smart thermostat that we could use to check on the house throughout the day. My husband logs on to the local weather forecast during his lunch break and then adjusts the HVAC system accordingly due to what he found out. Although the smart thermostat was a bit expensive to have installed, it has saved us that much plus much more because we are no longer wasting money on heating or cooling the house when it is not needed. We can even lower the temperature when the house is unoccupied and raise it up about an hour before we get home, saving us more money as well.
